The Legacy at St. Joseph’s
The Legacy at St. Joseph’s is a 50-bed enhanced assisted living facility in Kenosha, Wisconsin. JDR was selected to complete a thoughtful refresh of key interior common areas, with a focus on improving the visual appeal of shared spaces while maintaining the comfort, dignity, and daily routines of residents and staff.
The project centered on two primary areas of work: the Chapel and several major common spaces throughout the facility, including the lobby, dining areas, and atrium. In the Chapel, JDR updated the space with a new wall color palette that brought warmth and renewed character to the room. Existing pews, the altar, and wood wall surfaces were carefully touched up, re-sealed, and restored to preserve their beauty and continuity. A previously painted wood wall at the back of the Chapel was removed and replaced with a newly constructed wall that was stained and sealed to match the surrounding wood elements, creating a more cohesive and polished finish.
Beyond the Chapel, JDR completed a major visual transformation in the facility’s shared common areas by painting the existing sealed wood ceilings white while leaving the wood beams exposed. This design approach brightened the spaces significantly and introduced a more modern, open feel without losing the architectural warmth and character of the original wood structure. The contrast between the white ceilings and natural beams gave the lobby, dining, and atrium spaces a refreshed, updated appearance that feels both welcoming and current.
Because the work took place within an active assisted living environment, careful planning and phased execution were essential. JDR completed the project in stages, using temporary containment and tented work zones to minimize disruption to daily operations. This approach allowed residents, staff, and visitors to continue moving through the facility safely and efficiently while renovations were underway.
The completed improvements enhanced some of the most visible and meaningful gathering spaces within The Legacy at St. Joseph’s. The result is a brighter, more refined environment that supports both function and atmosphere, while reflecting the level of care and comfort expected in a senior living community.
